Well, after a little over a year of work. The Hold Volume One is finally complete! It's been a lot of ups and downs, but I'm just happy I was finally able to release it to the web. It is free for download at Smashwords (I will provide links below).

The Hold has been an on and off project for a while now, and this last year I really focused on getting the book finished and published, which is why this year has been a little light on drawings. But now I'm planning on doing some artwork to promote the series, so expect to see me around here some more!

About The Hold: It is a fantasy novel series within the Monster Hunting genre. The main character, Aria, finds herself in a group of Hunters known as Shrine Guardians. Under their care, she begins to learn what it means to be a Hunter, though Aria is unsure it is a path she can follow. The first book revolves around her journey South, to hunt a strange creature that comes from the deep forests -- her first hunt, and one she will not forget.

Hey everyone,

Took a little bit of a hiatus to focus my energy on an indie book I've been wanting to write and get published. It's going to be 100% free, and it will actually be the first part of The Hold storyline! I tried doing it as a comic but it was far too time-consuming. Writing a novel made a lot more sense as I already have experience with that medium. The book is scheduled to be released sometime December-January. We are currently in the final proofing phase!

The good news is the heavy lifting is pretty much over, so I have time to draw again! I already got some things set to be released so I look forward to sharing them with you all, and just in time for October Halloween fun too, which happens to be my favorite time of year.

For those unfamiliar, these are some Hold related art pieces I have worked on over the past few years, the novel will follow these characters:

This month marks two years of drawing seriously, I can't believe it! Time does fly. Here's some news for you:

- I'm currently working on a video game project, and while I will do my best to keep posting here, it is pretty demanding so we'll see how that affects my posting schedule.

- I have this project idea I'm working on for my personal posts that I think is really cool hope you guys like it!

SO WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

I've always been curious about that inspirational spark which drives artists. For each person, it seems to be different. Art is a taxing practice, it takes a lot of effort and a willingness to frequently fail and be pushed farther. So, for you guys, what is it that keeps you going? What do you do to keep yourself moving forward?

I'd be interested in hearing your guy's thoughts on the subject, and maybe we can help inspire one another!

Till next time!

It's my birthday month! Yeah! In other news:

- A lot of my followers have been asking for more Fire Emblem Fan Art, so definitely expect more of that.

But, if there is a SPECIFIC CHARACTER or a situation you would like to see, please comment! I don't always do all the requests I get, namely because of time but also because of art-related problems (IE character design, complexity, etc.) but I'm always open to suggestions and I always pick some!

- I also have been playing a ton of Nier Automata, so I'm planning to draw at least one more 2b piece. My first attempt was... meh.

- Outside of that, I am still doing this online class thing so you may see other works related to my class assignments pop up.

It's been a very interesting year so far with a lot of growth, not even two full years yet and I feel I have grown so much as an artist, and you guys have been great along the way. Your comments and encouragement are sometimes the only thing that keeps me going. As everyone is aware, art can be a very taxing and brutal practice, and sometimes you feel like you have nothing left to give. But then that one encouraging comment comes along, and you feel like you can take on the world again. So thanks again! Here's to another month.

Well, the months have certainly flown by!

WHATS NEW:
- I'm currently taking an art course, and the projects are a bit demanding, so expect to see more different things.
- I will still try and do fan art to the best of my abilities! Working full time and also being in class is a ton of work -_-
- If you're not following my on Instagram, but want extra goodies like sketches, you should definitely check it out! I post a lot more extra stuff there: www.instagram.com/adamjgilbert…
- I have this personal project I really want to build up more, so expect to see more of that.

COMMISSIONS: CLOSED

REQUESTS: CLOSED
But always keep a lookout for requests, I do open them if I'm in need of new ideas!

Always practicing, never quitting.

EXERCISE OF THE MONTH:
- Wanting to improve? Here's an exercise I want you to do at least for one week!
    - x10 greyscale sketches of master works (think traditional, old, timeless works! Nothing modern. You should take about 1-2 hour per sketch)
    - x10 Color Studies of Master Works (Do NOT use the color picker tool, use your eyes, same as the greyscale sketch, roughly 1-2 hours per study)
    - x1 Master study (pick your favorite classic painting, and attempt to copy it exactly as you see it! No paint overs, no color picker, paint everything yourself!)

Till next time folks!
